System Shock 2 is a genre-defining classic RPG

First released in 1999, System Shock 2 blended first-person shooter, RPG and survival horror elements to create a sci-fi horror game that was years ahead of its time. Although it wasn't a commercial success at release, the game was critically acclaimed and has gone on to become one of the most influential games in the genre. Whether you're getting reacquainted with an old favorite or discovering this classic for the first time, this updated version brings the story to modern platforms.

Look at you, Hacker ...

In System Shock 2, you play a soldier who has emerged from cryogenic stasis aboard a 22nd-century starship. A strange genetic plague has broken out, turning crew members into mutated monsters, and you must find the source of the infection and stop it. Later first-person RPGs drew heavily on the game's skill system, which gave a huge range of options for character customization. In contrast to a lot of modern games, however, this one is very demanding; resources are scarce, combat is deadly, and a combination of planning and quick thinking is the only hope for survival.
